The Onam festivities commence with Atham day, marked by the presence of the Atham Nakshatra. These celebrations extend over a period of ten days and reach their pinnacle on Thiruvonam day, which is considered the most favourable day of the entire Onam festival. In alternative Hindu calendars, the Atham Nakshatra is known as Hasta Nakshatra.
